Since our inception, we have fostered the tradition of engaging in Corporate Sustainability (CS) initiatives through formation of Community Committees at our Group Service Centres, enabling our people to come together to contribute to economic development while improving the quality of life of the local community that we function in.
We believe our people have the potential to be ‘change agents’ and through identified projects in the areas of Education, Environment and HIV/AIDS, we equip them with the opportunities to help build a better tomorrow.
The efforts of more than 23,000 of our employees who collectively put together over 50,000 volunteering hours in 2007, in the areas of Education, Environment and HIV/AIDS, have touched the lives of nearly 10,000 people in Asia, giving them a ray of hope for their future and encouraging them to realise their dreams!
HSBC Global Resourcing focuses on the following areas for our CS initiatives:
Changing Lives through Education
Through our education initiatives, we provide access to education, particularly to children from disadvantaged backgrounds who might not otherwise get the opportunity. We adopt local underprivileged schools across the locations we are present in, and support education projects to give children opportunities for success and a better future.
Sharing the Responsibility to Save our Environment
At Global Resourcing, with the strength of over 30,000 employees we believe we can make a sustainable difference. In keeping with this objective, Global Resourcing celebrates the World Environment Day every year, in culmination of a month-long annual GR Environment campaign, where employees sign-up as Environ Jockeys (EJs) and spread awareness on issues like Climate Change. These EJs have an opportunity to further their interest and crusade by joining HSBC’s global climate change program and become Climate Champions.
Apart from employee engagement, we believe in reducing our consumption and emissions and ensuring that all our facilities are environment-friendly and have proper water and waste management processes in place. The GSCs also partner with several government and non-government bodies to spread the message and make their communities cleaner and greener.
Joining the fight against HIV/AIDS
Apart from the annual month-long awareness campaign GR runs urging employees and the local community to join the fight against the apathy, ignorance and stigma associated with HIV/AIDS, the Group Service Centres also partner with orphanages and like-minded NGOs to ensure adequate care and support for the afflicted.
We continue to reach out to the community, so that our employees get several opportunities to make a difference, because we know, together, we can create a better tomorrow.
