Corporate Sustainability

In continuation with the Group's philosophy, we focus on Corporate Sustainability activities through various employee engagement initiatives in the areas of Environment, Community, HIV/AIDS and Education projects, through Community Committees.

In 2007, employees across Global Resourcing collectively put in about 50,000 hours undertaking Corporate Sustainability initiatives. We adopted 12 schools and raised funds to the tune of USD 50000.

Through these initiatives, we aim to create 'Change Agents', so that as ambassadors of positive change, we can encourage affirmative action and make this world a better place.

Our fight against HIV/AIDS

In May 2007, we pledged USD25,000 for a period of three years, towards the support of 24 orphaned children suffering from HIV/AIDS living at the Sivananda Care and Support Children's Home based at Hyderabad. Their basic needs like nutrition, clothing, education and medical assistance was provided.

Changing lives through education

Education is the key to prosperity. Providing access to education, particularly for children from disadvantaged backgrounds who might not otherwise get the opportunity, is the central aim of HSBC's education initiatives.

In 2005, we joined hands with the State Government of Andhra Pradesh and adopted the Madhapur Mandal School. From then on, we have helped tranform the school which now has a computer laboratory, a library, a staff room and a play area for students with regular water supply and electricity.

Currently 640 students attend the school regularly, and very soon the school will be upgraded to a full-fledged High School by the State Government. A team of dedicated employees visit the school regularly and are involved with various teaching activities.

Sharing the responsibility to save our planet

In May 2007, HSBC announced a five-year, USD100 million programme to help tackle the causes and impacts of climate change. We has joined forces with The Climate Group, Earthwatch Institute, Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) and WWF to form the HSBC Climate Partnership. The partnership will mobilise HSBC employees world-wide into a 'green taskforce' to address the issue of climate change.

In keeping with this objective, we celebrated World Environment Day on 5 June 2008. The campaign advocated messages to conserve energy, recycle waste, to thwart 'Climate Change' and thus witnessed enthusiastic participation from employees.

CEO's Award for Corporate Responsibility

At HSBC Global Resourcing, we believe that we have a responsibility to the community that we function in. We recognise that the most effective way of supporting education is by engaging our most powerful asset — our own employees.

In 2007, GSCs in Hyderabad won the 'CEO's Award for Corporate Sustainability' which is a token of appreciation and recognition of the efforts undertaken by the Group Service Centres across Global Resourcing.
